How to take a Professional Portrait

Recently my realtor, Richard Moore, contacted me wanting to update his business profile. He already had an idea of what he wanted for his branding and needed a good professional portrait for it. I've done a few head shots, but this was my first attempt to do a professional portrait that would need to be edited in such a way that his graphic designer could manipulate it for his branding. I must admit, this was probably the most fun I've had editing and the outcome was amazing.
So how does it work?
To start, the client should choose attire that they think represents them for the type of business they do. In this case, Richard chose a suit and matched his accessories (tie and handkerchief) to the colors of his branding. Next we chose a simple location. We used his office conference room that had a solid wall (this comes in handy when you are editing). For lighting, I used a speed light at about half power. I honestly could have used better lighting for a sharper image, but it worked. We took several shots in different poses. Then the fun began... Using Photoshop, I basically designated him only as a layer and was able to delete any background then save in such a format that he can be placed over any background (kind of like one of those cut outs of celebrities).
As you can see in the picture, the resulting images are fantastic! Not only does Richard look great, but any graphic designer can take those images and place them in branding without having to do any additional editing.
I would love to do more of these! Interested in re-branding this year, or simply getting an updated professional portrait?? Let's set it up! Contact me through my website or at bephotographybylj@gmail.com for more information on booking a session.
